Paperbarke

Hello! Welcome to my store. I'm David, an art director, designer, and typographer originally from Sydney (that's Sydney, Australia, for you Americans), but have actually lived most of my adult life in the once amazing city of Hong Kong. My concept for Paperbarke has been to, well, have a concept, behind most of what I do, rather than just make things that look nice. A good way to describe what I do is I adopt an 'Italian Cooking' approach to my work. That is to say I start with good ingredients, and do just enough to highlight them, without the unnecessary. To that end, I create minimal designs focussing on words that mean something, and craft those words with at times, evocative and beautiful typography using (mostly) my own fonts. As well as imagery that once again, veers towards storytelling and the minimal. Be it one of my typographical designs, or a visual one, I try to say something positive about the character and intelligence of the end-user - what they might stand for, believe in, aspire to, or identify with. And at the end, create work that is unique. As unique as you (ok, that last line was a bit cheesy, but you get the sentiment).
