Musical Colors

Hello! I'm J. Humlie, the designer and creative mind behind Musical Colors. As a Design Studies student at California State University, Sacramento, I have a passion for exploring the connections between art, emotion, and creativity. My work is inspired by the unique ways people experience the world, and this shop is an extension of that artistic journey. Many people ask why the shop is called Musical Colors when most of the products feature abstract gradients and flowing color compositions rather than traditional musical imagery. The answer lies in the way I perceive creativity. I hear colors and instinctively associate different shades, hues, and combinations with particular styles of music, melodies, and instruments. A deep violet may evoke the sound of a cello, while a vibrant gold might remind me of a trumpet fanfare or an uplifting chorus. Because of this relationship between sound and color, many of my designs are given names that resemble song titles, reflecting the emotions and rhythms they inspire. The majority of the artwork featured in this shop was created by me as original digital designs. In addition, I proudly include several pieces that began as paintings by my mother, shared with her permission and transformed into products that celebrate our shared appreciation for art and creativity. Some works were also developed with the assistance of artificial intelligence as part of my creative process, serving as a collaborative tool that helps explore new ideas while remaining guided by my artistic vision. Many of the products throughout the shop include a poem or an excerpt from one of my poems. These writings are intended to function as lyrical companions to the visual artwork, almost like songs without melodies. They capture the mood, atmosphere, or emotional story behind each design, inviting viewers to experience the artwork through both words and color. At its heart, Musical Colors is about finding harmony between different forms of expression.
