Amazon CARES was founded in 2004 in Iquitos, Perú. We are a 501(c)(3) charity sponsored by the International Humanities Center. Our Mission: To create a humane, healthy environment for all living beings in Peru's Amazon Region. A quick explanation is that CARES is a "Humane Society." It en much broader, dealing not only with animal health, safety, and the prevention of overpopulation, but also public health issues, humane education, free spay/neuter clinics throughout the Amazon region. We have a very active international volunteer program in Perú, as well as an active Volunteer program in the USA.
