Lurcher is not a specific dog breed, but a type of dog. By definition, a Lurcher is a Sighthound cross — most often part Greyhound and part Terrier. Bodhi and River are half Whippet and half Bedlington Terrier. The name Lurcher comes from the ancient Romany word "lur" which means thief and "cur" meaning a mixed breed dog. Over the centuries it became one word — Lurcher. Legend has is that during the Middle Ages, the peasants and gypsies of Britain would used the dogs to poach (steal) small game from the royal forests. Our Lurchers are fun-loving, affectionate and incredibly lovable dogs with strong hunting instincts — so be ware all squirrel and rabbit who cross these lands.
