KindnessFuckingMatters

Kindness has always played a meaningful role in my life and has always been an obvious core trait to me. However as we all grow it becomes obvious that kindness is not celebrated in adult life. Where do we lose it? Be kind, treat others as you wish to be treated, share, If you cant say anything nice.... the list goes on. All of the things we are taught as children, things we teach our own children... yet it gets lost. Focus is shifted to how salacious, argumentative, negative, and “real” we can be and how we can impress each other with how informed we are with the negative. While we ARE adults and the reality of the world crashes in on us in waves, and life gets hard, I don’t understand the aversion to celebrating kindness, the reluctance and the downright derision of kindness as a virtue. This false bravado that dictates that kindness is weakness. As if its either or. I know in my life that the strongest people I have ever met have also been the kindest, and unapologetically so. Not that they seek attention for kindness but they are not afraid of people knowing they are kind. They are unconcerned with people thinking that they are weak. They are strong in all ways including their kindness and those are the people who give me hope that the world is not lost. The weakest people brag about unkindness as if it makes them something important. This is what society focuses on, celebrates, and idealizes. Kindness is true strength. Kindness is a choice and absolutely the responsibility of every single person. We are society, we can shift it and we ARE the only ones who can. So we have to spotlight it, we have to make it cool, we have to talk about it, we have to broadcast it and in doing so remind everyone that Kindness Fucking Matters! its a responsibility we all have to make the world a better place, to change the focus and work at our problems as a society. They are, after all “our” problems. There is no mysterious force that changes “society”.... just us.
