Kathryn is a scientist and professor whose painting and photography focus on cell biology and nature. She grew up near Lake Michigan where the exposure to magnificent scenes and water encouraged a passion for painting. Kathryn's formal education includes an undergraduate minor in the fine arts. Her artistic side was fostered by gifted father and brother artists, from whom she derived a strong baseline for design and concepts. Kathryn's advanced degree in the biomedical sciences directed her to formulate a working theme based on the intercalation of art and science, which clearly shows up in her work. From Lake Michigan to the Chesapeake Bay her nature scenes depict a love of water, boats, trees and a propensity for cool, analogous blue and green palettes.
