These Chileno Valley Newt Brigade products help fund our important work to preserve biodiversity by saving amphibians, including newts and red legged frogs, from being killed as they try to cross Chileno Valley Road. During winter evenings, newts in northern California’s Chileno Valley come down from the hills and cross the road to breed in Laguna Lake. Newt Brigade Volunteers pick up the newts and move many across to safety. In the 2023 season CVNB volunteers logged over 1,700 hours and saved over 7,400 newts! Our long-term goal is to create a science-based built solution to safely assist the newts in migrating to and from their breeding lake.
