Thank you for taking the time to visit my shop! For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed art and the creation of it. As a child, I spent quiet moments sketching and drawing or completely immersing myself in art projects. So naturally, as an adult, I pursued a career in creative, expressive environments: advertising, publishing and film post production industries...as an Accounting Manager. Funny how life works out. One thing that has long been apparent: the lack of African and Black American history taught in our school system. It is truly amazing how much our children and even we as adults, do not know about our history as well as the history of other ethnic cultures. As I do background research for my projects, I find myself learning new historical facts all the time. In my opinion, historical facts I should have learned long ago. My aim is create art that teaches some of these discoveries, mainly through folk art. I've chosen this genre because of it's expressive, cultural, decorative and colorful qualities. These elements attract the eye. I enjoy working with acrylic paints, inks, artist markers and some use of graphic elements. Most of my teaching posters include a detailed summary of the historical subject matter. You will also find some of my designs applied to home decor products. I hope you enjoy the art and gain some knowledge about our history in the process. -Janice
