“If you hear hooves, think horses, not zebras.” This age old saying learned by medical students emphasizes recognizing the common answer, not the rare one. But sometimes, it is actually a zebra! As someone who has Ehler’s-Danlos Syndrome, I have it on my heart to support, through education and awareness, others dealing with this genetic disorder and those with other rare disorders who are often dismissed or overlooked because they are zebras, not horses.
