Jigsaw puzzles were part of my world before there was television or MacDonalds. For 25 cents one could watch two cowboy movies, a cartoon, ”previews” and the newsreel at the local theater. I was fifty years old when the internet began. So much continues to change but the traditional picture puzzle has not. They require no battery, chargers or wifi, however, assembly is still required. Covid-19 forced lifestyle change as activities and travel were restricted resulting in much more time spent inside. My wife and I reacquainted with jigsaw puzzles. Not only did they make the days pass quicker but, we discovered research claiming they are beneficial to health. The act of putting pieces of a puzzle together requires concentration, improves short-term memory and exercises the mind which can spark imagination, increasing your creativity and productivity. Not to mention the joy of finding the right piece and experiencing great satisfaction when the puzzle is completed. My travels frequently have taken me to many places not only in the United States but around the globe. As an artist I have captured in countless photos my unique view of the world focused on views most never enjoy. Many have been used as the basis for drawings and paintings. Subjects range from cathedrals in Europe to temples in China, simple Amish life to busy Times Square. Following a successful 20 year corporate career as a graphic designer, I have over the last 40 years had the good fortune of marketing my art in many forms to thousands all over the world. But never as jigsaw puzzles. I believe the time has come to do so. May you feel likewise as piece by piece my art comes together while you experience the joy of doing jigsaw puzzles.
