R5 HONOR

The H.O.N.O.R. initiative offers a private, structured opportunity for acknowledgment and reflection for EMS, fire, and law enforcement personnel following impactful trauma fatalities. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by out-of-hospital care providers in the wake of critical incidents, our program goes beyond a traditional awards system by providing encouragement and solace when, despite extraordinary efforts, a patient does not survive. Through the thoughtful presentation of a lapel pin and tribute card, H.O.N.O.R. honors the dedication of first responders and commemorates the lives of those they serve. Inspired by the reflective practices of initiatives like “The Pause” and “Honor Walks” in hospital settings, our program adapts these benefits for field-based responders—fostering emotional resilience and supporting mental health in high-stress situations. The H.O.N.O.R. initiative addresses mental health challenges, promotes connection across the trauma care continuum, and fosters resilience. It aligns with the Regional Trauma System Priorities of injury prevention, public awareness, and trauma advocacy.
