Stairway to Hell

The stairs began where the church ended. They were not visible to everyone. Only those who happened to let their gaze rest on a crack in the floor noticed that something was amiss—as if the stone were breathing. As if beneath it lay another space, patient and hungry. It was said that the entrance appeared only when a person did something they were not meant to remember.
