Saint Francis of Assisi

Francis of Assisi is one of my favorite saints, and who can really resist a man who wants to share his inner life with the birds and calls them his sisters? I'm especially fond of Ramboux's (Johann Anton Ramboux, Saint Francis preaching to the birds, 1808) representation of the subject, the bright blue background really seems to elevate the picture. Inside the greeting card there is also a short description of the event, an excerpt from the Flowers of Saint Francis (a medieval collection of legends). In the collection you'll also find a few designs based on Raphael's (1483–1520) painting of Saint Francis, the picture is combined with a few lines from a prayer that traditionally has been attributed to St. Francis (The prayer of Saint Francis).
