Owl from a Medieval Manuscript

An owl, illustration on fol. 18r of J. Paul Getty Museum, Ms. Ludwig XV 3. The manuscript was written in Flanders (now Northern France) in about 1270. In the middle ages an owls had unfortunately poor reputations, representing those who give into sin and turn from the love of God. Digital image courtesy of the Getty's Open Content Program. Although the Getty Museum makes digital images available for re-use through the Open Content Program, it neither endorses nor approves of Medieval Manuscript Designs products.
