Fourteenth Amendment Section 3

Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment disqualifies from public office people who had previously taken an oath to support or defend the US Constitution, and who engaged in an insurrection against the United States. Originally designed to keep former Congresspeople and US military officers out of elective office after the Civil War if they had joined the Confederacy, it is newly relevant now to the former President and his cohorts who tried to overthrow the government and throw out the votes of tens of millions of Americans to keep a losing candidate in office.
