Explanatory Cards

These cards show the Mah-Jong designs used in the various products found in this store, along with explanations of what the designs mean. Most are based on Mah-Jong tiles from sets made in China 1920 and 1940. Modern sets share a lot of these designs but in certain tiles, like the Flowers and Seasons, the older sets show pictures that relate to Chinese cultural history. And, although they usually follow traditional themes, it can sometimes be difficult to discern there meaning. But it’s with the designs of these tiles that the Chinese craftsman could best show his skills. So the tiles are often very attractive… and interesting.
