John Atkinson Grimshaw, Evening glow, circa 1884. John Atkinson Grimshaw (British 1836 - 1893) was a Victorian-era artist, known for his beautiful night-time and sunset landscapes. Like the Pre-Raphaelite painters he painted in a careful style, with realism and vivid detail, but his skill in lighting effects also allowed him to capture the mood of the scene.
