A Host of Angels

A Host of Angels features digital artwork featuring images of Angels. These images are created by digital artist Ruth Furtado. She has been creating stunning, otherworldly images since 2009. Her work has been described as "both exhilirating and calming at the same time" "Beautiful images, beauty created with light" and "ethereal art of transcendent beauty." These wonderful images are the result of my experimentation with a technique that simulates fractal art or art generated mathematically on a computer. "I noticed some of the pieces I was creating looked like wings to me. I began by duplicating and reflecting them and discovered, as I moved them apart, I could see what looked like Angels between the wings. Some are quite easy to see, some, not so much. I’ve noticed that everyone sees something different in these. I believe we all see our own angels who watch over us, protect us and help us every day. That is why I’ve identified them with numbers instead of names. After all, your Angels won’t have the same names mine have, you will call them by names that are meaningful to you." Ruth says, "I never know how these will turn out when I start and I am always surprised. I believe these images come not from me but through me from somewhere else and for that, I feel profoundly blessed!" Ruth’s decade long battle with Multiple Sclerosis became much more challenging in February of 2010 when she was hospitalized with a flare up of her MS symptoms which has left her permanently disabled. She has since re-learned to create these beautiful and inspiring images with her left hand as she no longer has full function of her right hand. This has not stopped her from pursuing what has become “my calling.” Her views on dealing with this at times debilitating disease are simple: Adapt to the changes, find a new way to do things when you can no longer do them the way you used to. Each time you adapt rather than giving up makes it easier to adapt to the next change. She is also working daily on regaining strength on her right side. "I will NOT let this disease define me and I will fight every day to take back what it has taken from me!"
