The Generals at Fredericksburg

It was late in 1862. If General Burnside crossed the Rappahannock River first General Robert E. Lee would be forced to defend Richmond from the south side of the North Anna River. However, Lee thought Burnside was moving too slowly, giving him a chance to move further north and thus further from Richmond. This collection includes the Calendar of the Generals at Fredericksburg and colorized vintage photographs of some of the union and confederate officers involved in the battle that eventually took place at Fredericksburg, Virginia. The portraits include those of Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, Alfred Pleasonton, Ambrose Burnside, Ambrose Hill, James Longstreet and more.
