St. Apollonia COLLECTION (VVP 001)

She was an “admirable virgin in advanced age”, a deaconess preaching the Gospel on the streets of Alexandria, Egypt, when she was dragged from her home by an angry anti-Christian mob. They knocked out her teeth and built a pyre upon which to burn her. She leapt into the flames herself. St. Apollonia (died c. 249) is the patron saint of dentistry. This is the more matronly version of the three currently being vended in our store. Here she not only holds her typical attribute of a tooth held in tongs or pincers and a palm of martyrdom, but also a book symbolic of her teaching role as deaconess. + For additional information, see her short bio on catholicsaints.onfo/saint-apollonia-of-alexandria/ + Coordinating colors (with hex codes) for this splendid NeoGothic image include: orange red (#F45306), red (#C32700), dark red (#8E240D), aqua (#7AA587), dull aqua (#7B956E), green (#71853D), yellow orange (#DEB54A), yellow (#F6D23E), beige (#E8C986), and a very dark brown (#511E13).
