Sano di Pietro, Angel of the Annunciation

'Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you'. The narrative of Mary's encounter with the archangel Gabriel is both beautiful and touching. When I look at pictures of the event, it seems very important to me that Gabriel is depicted in the 'right' way, I want the archangel to be both otherworldly and to have compassionate insight into human life. I think Sano di Pietro (Italian 1405-1481) has succeeded with just that.
