Mr Briggs & His Doings: Fishing
I love the humorous illustrated plates popular in the 19th century. And I’m always on the lookout for gifts for the fly fishers in my family who have all their kit sorted.
John Leech (1817–1864) illustrated the 12 plates comprising Mr. Briggs & His Doings: Fishing. The collection was published by Bradbury and Evan of Fleet Street, London.
Leech was well known in his day for his caricatures. He was a frequent contributor to the satirical magazine Punch and illustrated the first edition of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.
The various series of Mr. Briggs & His Doings are considered to be among the earliest so-called comic books. The artistry of his pen portraits was admired by Ruskin, who said Leech captured ‘the finest definition and natural history of the classes of our society, the kindest and subtlest analysis of its foibles, the tenderest flattery of its pretty and well bred ways.’
I've designed the mugs so that the text may be customized, replacing Mr Briggs and Mr B with your recipient's name.
I've designed the cards so that the interior greeting can be changed or deleted.
