London Bridge Lake Havasu

The World Famous London Bridge, formally spanning the River Thames in London, England, was purchased, dismantled and reconstructed in Lake Havasu City, Arizona 50 years ago by entrepreneur and visionary Robert P. McCulloch. Today, the London Bridge serves as one of Arizona’s iconic tourist landmarks, spanning 930 feet across a manmade canal from the Colorado River linking an island to the mainland. In 2021, our Lake Havasu City Public Works crews replaced nearly 700 down lighting fixtures and wiring, which was originally installed in the 1970s. In keeping with the current lighting scheme and recognizing the importance of the London Bridge being both an historical attraction and tourist destination, the new LED fixtures have the same color temperature as it appeared before throughout the year with more clarity, along with the capability for each fixture to change colors. With a cloud-based lighting software program, we can provide dynamic lighting scenes to draw attention to important causes, and promote Lake Havasu City, special events, and holidays. Throughout the year, several different scenes are displayed, including patriotic colors, pink for Breast Cancer Awareness and purple for Domestic Violence Awareness months, purple and gold for LHHS Varsity Football game days, green for Saint Patrick’s Day, and spooky colors for Halloween. Overall, there are over 25 different scenes programmed into the lighting system to account for several different holidays and commemorative occasions.
