Durand-Eastman Beach & Park in Rochester NY

Durand Eastman Park is a 977-acre park located partly in Rochester NY, and partly in Irondequoit NY. It is administered by the Monroe County Parks Department. The park's northern boundary is defined by 5,000 feet (1,500 m) of Lake Ontario coastline. The public beach is the most commonly used asset of the Park, whereas some of the more forested areas only see moderate use during the regular season. Across from the street from the beach there are picnic tables and cast iron grills. The park does include restroom facilities. A zoo once existed in the park, home to as many as 115 animals of the "hoof-stock" variety, such as buffalo, elk, deer, and goats. The zoo opened in 1912 with private funds, but closed in 1962.
