August Macke, Promenade
Designs inspired by a colorful painting by August Macke (Promenade, 1913).
August Macke (1887 – 1914) was a German Expressionist painter and member of the Expressionist group Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider).
Perhaps thanks to his close friendship to Franz Marc he was also a part of the inner circle of the group, although he took a fairly critical view of the mystical and spiritual aspects of the art of for example Wassily Kandinsky.
For Macke, painting was more about the creative transformation of nature, to make it afresh out of units of luminous color. His meeting with Robert Delaunay (1912) and his chromatic cubism was to be a sort of revelation for him.
