ShelterStars was set up by the volunteers at Riverside County Department of Animal Services, San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus as a way to actively support our shelter and community in the effort to save the lives of animals within our community and elsewhere. Part of our efforts to save lives is in getting the word out about all the animals that are eligible for adoption or rescue. Volunteers make a vital difference in the animal's lives by socializing, exercising the animals as well as bathing and photographing the adoptable animals for the Pet Harbor web site which features our adoptable animals. Volunteers step in as a foster parent to underage puppies and kittens that are brought into the shelter as well as assisting with pet-owner unification and actively promoting our other life saving programs and services. The shelter offers low cost spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchipping of pets and which is also included and covered by the fee for any animal adopted. Several times during the year adoptions are offered at reduced rates as low as $20.00 and adoptions to seniors and active military are always free or half priced. For our innovative Foster program, all essentials such as kitten/puppy milk replacement, canned or dry food, cat litter, and pet carriers or crates are provided by the shelter. The volunteers raise money to support these programs all aimed at eliminating euthanasia and the proceeds of any sales, revenues produced or money donated is 100% returned to the Volunteer Fund to support these services. The photos and art work on the featured items are all portraits of animals that have come in through our shelter doors and exited to a forever home.
